Description: SOCIAL SCIENCES -The Department of Social Sciences at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure track Anthropology position with a specialization in Medical Anthropology, to begin September 8, 2008. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties and responsibilities include maintaining an active teaching, service, and research career. The Department is seeking a physical or social anthropologist with a specialization in applied human health and disease. We are particularly interested in candidates focused on the interactions among biological, environmental, or social factors influencing human health and disease at the individual or community level. Geographical area is open, however preference may be given to those conducting research in regions not covered by current faculty. The successful candidate must demonstrate sufficient versatility in their teaching style. He or she will be expected to teach introductory, advanced topic, and specialization courses, as well as methods courses in rotation with other faculty. The Social Sciences Department is currently in the process of developing a new degree in Anthropology-Geography that will emphasize scientific and applied aspects of these disciplines. The multidisciplinary nature of the incipient program mandates that the new anthropologist work cooperatively with faculty from a variety of disciplines. It is also expected that he or she will contribute to development of new curriculum. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Anthropology is required at the time of appointment (ABDs will be considered). A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and professional activity which keeps the applicant abreast of knowledge and developments within his or her professional field are also required. University-level teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness are strongly desired.
